Start with the measurement

Choose the room around the test.

An anechoic chamber, reverberation room and sound-insulation suite serve different purposes. We begin with your test method, equipment and available space.

Acoustic environments and typical applications

Anechoic / semi-anechoicProduct noise, sound power and directivity testing, subject to the selected method.Frequency range, usable test volume, background noise and floor arrangement.
Reverberation roomTests requiring a reverberant acoustic environment.Room volume, diffusion, frequency range and the intended test procedure.
Sound-insulation test suiteAirborne sound insulation testing of building elements and assemblies.Test opening, receiving and source rooms, specimen handling and flanking transmission.
Audiometric roomA controlled environment for hearing-test applications.Ambient noise, ventilation, access and equipment interfaces.

Define the brief

Six details that shape a chamber.

  • Test subject and its largest dimensions
  • Required test method and frequency range
  • Background noise and vibration conditions
  • Available room dimensions and floor loading
  • Ventilation, electrical services and access
  • Programme, budget and future test requirements

Your questions

Planning an acoustic test room.

What is the difference between anechoic and semi-anechoic chambers?

Anechoic chambers use absorbing treatment across the room boundaries to approximate a free-field environment over a designed frequency range. Semi-anechoic chambers retain a reflecting floor. The correct choice depends on the test method and how the equipment is installed.

Can an existing room be converted?

Potentially. Suitability depends on space, surrounding noise and vibration, building structure, access and the required acoustic performance. A site review establishes the constraints before a design is proposed.

Can instrumentation be included?

The company profile describes integrated acoustic, noise and vibration measurement systems. Tell us your intended tests so that chamber and instrumentation requirements can be discussed together.

Do all chambers meet the same performance requirements?

No. Performance and acceptance checks should be specified for the intended application, frequency range and test method. These form part of the agreed design and commissioning scope.
